FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is Go M.A.D.?

A: Go Make A Difference is an international web-based volunteer organization founded and run by English teachers on the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme in Japan and JET Alumni. Go M.A.D. works to match the skills of volunteers with an organization who needs those skills.

Q: Do I need to be a JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme participant to avail of Go M.A.D.'s services?

A: No. http://www.go-mad.org is open to everybody!

Q: Is there an application fee for volunteering?

A: No.

Q: What's with this SIGN UP thing then?

A: It's only for JETs who wish to sign up for the new GO M.A.D. Special Interest Group (SIG). Non-JETs do not need to sign up. Unless you are a fellow English Teacher and can use the benefits of being a paid member, then contact Rachel Allen at gomadfunds@gmail.com

Q: Who pays for my flight to these beautiful, exotic places? Do I get any help?

A: It is the volunteer's responsibility to pay for everything associated with volunteering, such as transportation, food, and lodging. Go M.A.D. encourages you to fundraise among friends, family, classmates, and coworkers at home before departing. There is no minimum or maximum amount to fundraise. Please contact Jennifer Hobbs at gomadcardsales@gmail.com for great fundraising ideas and inspiration.

Q: Is there an age limit to volunteer?

A: That depends on the organization. Most will accept at least those of 18 years of age.

Q: How will I know what to do when I arrive at a project?

A: Go M.A.D. puts you in direct contact with project directors by email or the phone, as listed on International Projects It is best to discuss what skills or talents you have to offer, such as teaching English, organizing sports, writing grant letters, or doing construction, before arriving.

If you have any further questions about the region and country, please do research on the internet or contact a Go M.A.D. staff member for more details.
