How long has the project existed?
4 years

Is this project a faith-based organization?
No

Have you ever had foreign volunteers work at your project?
Yes

Are you currently part of a volunteer program?
Yes

Is there a language requirement?
Being able to communicate is required. Swahili language training is provided in the first week.

How many volunteers can you handle at one time?
24

What time of year do you want volunteers?
All year round, particularly May-November

What is the minimum and maximum time volunteers can stay?
4-12 weeks

Depending on the mission of the project and its financial resources we often ask our volunteers to fundraise and donate money to the project that they will be volunteering with. In an effort to encourage volunteers to stay for an extended period of time, we generally ask that donation amounts are decreased for extended periods of staying. In no way, do we want projects to have volunteers to simply ‘make’ money from them. We only want you to have volunteers whole skills you think you could utilize rather than just their money (although we realize that the money is also vital to the project!)

Fees (Subject to change every year and depend on how long you want to go for, so please see the costs page on our website)

Will you accept volunteers who can’t donate?
No

What will the donations be used for (please give a detailed description?
The majority of the fee goes as a donation to the development work in Tanzania. The rest goes on the volunteers in-country costs such as training, food and travel. A small amount is spent on administration. Please check the cost page on www.volunteerafrica.org for a detailed breakdown on how the fee is spent.

Will you provide volunteers with food and/or accommodation?
Yes

Who can volunteer (men/women/both)?
Both

When do volunteers have to contact you (the minimum time they have to contact you before volunteering at a project)?
Ideally 3-6 months before departure

Description of the project:
Volunteer Africa runs various volunteers programmes; teaching in an orphanage, working in a resource centre and building work on rural development projects such as school classrooms or health dispensaries.

How did the project start?
Volunteer Africa recognized the demand of bringing together volunteers and Tanzanian villagers and children to mutual benefit.

Is there anyone else, former volunteers, that we can contact (by email) as a reference for your project?
We are happy to put applicants in touch with returned volunteers.

Additional comments?
Volunteer Africa is run largely by volunteers who experienced and enjoyed Tanzania and want to share this with others. Tanzania is a magnificent country and our programme benefits all parties involved.
