Growing Together School Project Description
Growing Together is now in the process of expanding its offered curriculum and services available to the community. Based on a holistic model of education, we are incorporating art, music, gardening, Yoga, meditation practices and other interactive and creative activities into our curriculum. The school is staffed by both local Myanmar teachers and by visitors from abroad, and we warmly welcome any assistance offered by travelers visiting the country. Due to our low fees and limited means, there are a number of ways that interested parties can assist the organization.
How and when did the project start? Founded and built using personal funds by a Swedish English teacher living in Yangon
Is this project a faith-based organization? (If so, please explain the role of religion within it) No, however we include yoga and meditation as a part of our holistic approach.
From what sources have you received the bulk of your funding? Private fundraising
-
Are you currently part of a volunteer program? No
-
Have you ever had foreign volunteers work at your project? Yes
-
Is there a language requirement? No
-
How many volunteers can you handle at one time? up to 6
-
What time of year would you like volunteers? All year round
-
What is the minimum and maximum time volunteers can stay? N/A
Depending on the mission of the project and its financial resources we often ask our volunteers to fundraise. In an effort to encourage volunteers to stay for an extended period of time, we generally ask that donation amounts are decreased for extended periods of staying. Go M.A.D. aims to match volunteers' many talents and skills with projects in need. We hope you will recognize these skills volunteers have to offer, rather than just their money (although we realize that the money is also vital to the project!)
In your country's currency is fine:
-
Donation amount for 1 week?
-
Donation amount for 2 weeks?
-
Donation amount for 1 month?
-
Donation amount for 3 months?
-
Donation amount for 6 months?
-
Donation amount for 1 year or more?
While we will gratefully accept any financial contribution volunteers are able to make, and encourage those departing from their home countries to fundraise before departure, we have no donation requirements. However volunteers will be responsible for covering all of their own costs while here- lonely planet recommends $10-15 per day, we find we get by comfortably on less than this.
Will you accept volunteers who can't donate? Yes
What will the donations be used for (please give a detailed description)
-
Developing curricular resources
-
ongoing maintenance of school
-
development of new projects
-
funding scholarship students
-
supplementing operating budget
Donations can be designated for a specific area or project if requested by donor.
Will you provide volunteers with food and/or accommodation? If not, can you recommend places to eat/stay? We provide a vegetarian lunch for staff and volunteers daily, and can recommend several restaurants. We are looking into acquiring ongoing accommodation, if not available we have a favoured guesthouse which will offer a discount rate to volunteers .
Who can volunteer? (men/women/both, age minimum) Anyone
When do volunteers have to contact you? (the minimum time they have to contact you before volunteering at a project) Anytime- but as much notice as possible so we can fit you in to best utilise your time and skills.
Is there anyone else, i.e. former volunteers, that we can contact (by email) as a reference for your project? References provided upon request
Additional comments? Questions?
