Detailed Description of the orphanage / project:
- How long has your project been in existence?
The new shrine foundation was started in 2003.
- How did it start?
The homeless and poor of poorest migrate or come to the city with hope
to get job with their families. Their earnings in the city are not
enough for food and to rent a room. Therefore they cannot afford the
school fees for their children.
Education is the only real way out of poverty for poor. Without
education it is impossible to get basic skills needed to participate
in society, to get job and to understand the world.
Therefore the New Shrine Foundation was started.
- Is your project religious?
The New Shrine Foundation is a non-political, non-profit and
non-religious Non-Government Organization (NGO), registered with His
Majesty's Government of Nepal
- What do you need volunteers to do? (It is important to have outlined
duties for volunteers who come to your project).
Volunteer in Field – Nepal
- Teach English, games and music to pre-kindergarden to class 4.
- Help writing proposal for fund raising for school expansion and
sponsorship for students.
- Help create activities – music, sports, reading stories.
Volunteer at their home
- Make a donation, any amount, in any currency would be happily
accepted.
- Become a New Shrine Foundation Team Member $25 per year.
- Become a Child Sponsor for $100 per year, Individually, or raise funds
through your school, church, or business.
- Become a Regional Coordinator in your Province, State, or Country. We
have an ambitious 3 year goal to have at least 1 coordinator in every
State and Province in North America and Japan. If you can commit even
a few hours per month, you can make a huge difference in the lives of
these children. Help coordinate donations, fundraising, promotions,
and education activities in your area. Work with your local Churches,
Businesses, Unions, Schools, Charities, and Governments.
Virtual Volunteer Coordinators
- Read more information about volunteering virtually for New Shrine
Foundation.
- Have you ever had volunteers at your project?
Mr. Simon Reynolds in Canada is working as Overseas Fund
Raising/Donations Coordinator since the beginning.
- Do you currently receive volunteers through a program (ex. Peace
Corps, Etc.)?
No, we have not received any volunteer yet.
- How many volunteers would you like and can handle at the same time?
We would like to have maximum two volunteers at the same time.
- When could you receive your first volunteers?
As soon as possible.
- What time of year (or year round) would you like volunteers?
We would like to have volunteers from February – June.
- How long would you like volunteers to stay?
We would like to have the volunteer stay for longer period. But it’s
always not possible. Therefore we would like volunteers to stay
minimum 1 month.
- How much would you like volunteers to donate to the project?
Donation amount for 1 month? $250 USD
Donation amount for 2 months? $450 USD
Donation amount for 3 months? $450 USD
- Would you accept a volunteer who cannot afford to donate or to donate
the entire amount?
The New Shrine Foundation is not in capacity to accept a volunteer who
cannot afford to donate. However if volunteer commits for long term
stay in Nepal, we may consider accepting them.
- What will you use the donations for?
We use 90% donations for volunteer’s food and accommodation. Remaining
10% will be used for child sponsor.
- Would you provide the volunteer with simple food and accommodation?
We provide food and accommodation as mentioned in our website.
- Who can volunteer?
Volunteers in Field - Nepal
The average age of Children studying in New Shrine Academy is about 8
years. We found majority of this age group children prefer lady
teachers. Therefore the school prefers lady volunteers with fluent
English. Volunteers from Home
Anyone from any country can volunteer.
- How far in advance will a volunteer have to contact you before they
can come and volunteer at your project?
The volunteer can contact at least 1 month in advance.
- Do you have any language requirements?
The volunteers interested working in field must have fluent English.
- Additional comments?
I did not know that like Go M.A.D. (Go Make A Difference) is available
to help small NGO like us. Now I am hoping that collaboration with GO
MAD help to convert our objectives mentioned in our website in
reality.
