Pepy Ride Project Description
Name of the organization:

Email Address:

Address:
2-15-26 Enshuhama, Hamamatsu-shi, Shizuoka-ken, 430-0835 JAPAN
- How long has the project existed?
Since 11/04
- Is this project a faith-based organization? (and if is please
explain the role of religion within it?)
NO
- Have you ever had foreign volunteers work at your project?
we are "foreign" :-)
- Are you currently part of a volunteer program?
we are a volunteer program
- Is there a language requirement?
ENGLISH (and Khmer would be wonderful!)
- How many volunteers can you handle at one time?
We would like to havethe first ride be about 8 people maximum, and
then see how that goes. If we see possibilities of expanding the
size, future rides could have larger numbers.
- What time of year do you want volunteers?
We are looking for volunteers for this upcoming winter holiday. We
would like to take a group of about 20 people to visit The PEPY
School and volunteer with the kids, teaching, and painting murals.
We would also be looking for people to participate and lead their
own PEPY Ride for the following summer or winter, and ever year
after that! Also, we would like to have volunteer teachers visit The
PEPY Ride School at ANY time, for any amount of time, from just a
few days to a few months!
- What is the minimum and maximum time volunteers can stay?
The volunteer trip to visit The PEPY Ride School will be about 1
week (people can visit for just a few days if they have time
restraints). We hope that future PEPY Rides will last any where from
10 days to a month. Volunteers can visit The PEPY Ride School (which
is being constructed near Siem Reap) ANY time of year for ANY amount
of time!
- Depending on the mission of the project and its financial
resources we often ask our volunteers to fundraise and donate money
to the project that they will be volunteering with. In an effort to
encourage volunteers to stay for an extended period of time, we
generally ask that donation amounts are decreased for extended
periods of staying. In no way, do we want projects to have
volunteers to simply 'make' money from them. We only want you to
have volunteers whole skills you think you could utilize rather than
just their money (although we realize that the money is also vital
to the project!) Donation amount for 1 week?
We will ask that all volunteers who visit The PEPY Ride School bring
donations of at least $300 US dollars.
- Will you accept volunteers who can't donate?
We ask that everyone who visits tries to raise funds to donate.
Exceptions can be made on a per-person basis.
- What will the donations be used for (please give a detailed
description?
We are aiming to raise 35,000 US dollars. Currently we have funded
the school, solar paneling and a teacher for 2 years. Next we would
like to build a garden on the school grounds and fund a chef so that
all kids will get free lunch at school. We would then like to
provide a satellite, and then continue to pay for the teacher for
years to come.
- Will you provide volunteers with food and/or accommodation?
That can be arranged for long term volunteers.
- Who can volunteer (men/women/both)?
both
- When do volunteers have to contact you (the minimum time they
have to contact you before volunteering at a project)?
As soon as possible is best.
- Description of the project:
How did the project start?
Started by Daniela Papi and Greta Arnquist after trips to Cambodia
and a desire to bring educational resources to the children there.
The school is being built through American Assistance for
Cambodia/Japan Relief for Cambodia.
- Is there anyone else, former volunteers, that we can contact (by
email) as a reference for your project?
Not yet, but there will be after December! You can contact any of
the PEPY riders on our webpage:
www.pepyride.org
- Additional comments?
THANK YOU!
